My Refuge

Psalm 142:5
My Refuge

Where this name appears

“I cried to you, Yahweh. I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.””

Psalm 142:5 · World English Bible

What this name means

The place you run to when there is nowhere else to go. The safe place.

A refuge is not a permanent address — it is a place of safety in storm. When the storm passes, you go out again, but the refuge remains. Yahweh is the place you can always run to, without warning, without invitation.

The promise kept in this name

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer, present your requests to God."

Philippians 4:6

How to practice this name today

Four small steps. Don't try to do all of them. Pick one. Do it today.

1.

Name the fear specifically.

"What is the worst that could happen?" Write it. Anxiety loses half its power when dragged into the light. The unnamed dread is the loudest.

2.

Match each fear with a true thing.

Take the fear and write next to it one thing that is true about God — a name, a promise, a remembered faithfulness. Truth louder than fear.

3.

Slow your breath, on purpose.

Four counts in. Six counts out. Repeat for two minutes. Your body believes what it practices. Teach it peace.

4.

Hand back one thing tonight.

Before sleep, name one thing you will entrust to Him until morning. Say it aloud: "This is yours now." Then sleep. He will not.
