What this name means

The God who is above all gods, all powers, all kings. There is no one higher.

When Abram met Melchizedek, El Elyon was named as 'possessor of heaven and earth.' Whatever feels too big for you today is not too big for the Most High. Nothing operates above His authority.

The promise kept in this name

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

Jeremiah 29:11

How to practice this name today

Four small steps. Don't try to do all of them. Pick one. Do it today.

1.

Write down what you are hoping for.

Vague hope drifts. Named hope prays. Be specific. He is not afraid of your ask, and you are not too small to be heard.

2.

Look back to look forward.

List three times God came through — even small ones. The God who was faithful then is the same God who waits at the next bend.

3.

Do one thing that says 'I believe morning is coming.'

Plant something. Schedule something. Buy the ingredients. Hope works with its hands. It does not just wait — it prepares.

4.

Borrow hope when you have none.

Sit near someone who has it. Read the Psalms aloud. Listen to a worship song you cannot yet feel. Hope is contagious; let it find you.
